Brighton based producer and visual artist Asta Hiroki is not your typical electronic act…

Having honed his craft working as a composer & audio specialist in the world of contemporary dance, video games and moving image installations his works are typically nuanced, textural and deep pieces with an ethereal quality usually found in film soundtracks.

Drawing from jazz, electronica, post-Dilla hip hop, lo-fi and glitch music he builds beautiful compositions in his own brand of intelligent and modern, soulful electronica. Flitting between downtempo hip hop, ambient moments and glitchy compound-time signature beats it’s a widespan sound yet always constructed with the same attention to detail and jazz sensibilities.

Outside of the recording studio his experience working with video and images led to an avid interest in coding and engineering his own performance tools which he has put to good use by producing a variety of custom visual effects which have become deeply engrained in his live AV show. These custom tools react and respond to the audio, producing stunning visuals to accompany his on-stage performances.

The independent label – Jalapeno Records noticed this unique blend of skills and immediately signed Asta’s debut ‘Balance’ EP of four original tracks including two featuring the hugely talented Australian songstress Kathrin deBoer (Belleruche, Max Cooper, Quantic).

‘Balance’ rose high in the US CMJ College charts and gained strong radio support from the likes of BBC Radio 3, Couleur3 and LA tastemaker station KCRW. It reached number 1 in the Juno Download Broken Beat/ Nu Jazz chart and won him admirers worldwide.

His next record- the beautiful double A-side: ‘Channels/Vulnerable’ was released 21.7.17 and saw him continue his jazzed out explorations joined by the inimitable Suzi Analogue (Never Normal Records, Fresh Selects)- a well-respected pioneer and champion of the leftfield electronica and hip hop scenes.

The release was an instant success. It featured on no less than 10 official Spotify playlists including their ‘Fresh Finds'(gathering over 200k plays in it’s first 3 months). Also garnering support from Huey Morgan (Fun Lovin Criminals) on BBC 6Music and across the blogosphere (We Plug Good Music, Exclaim!, Sphere Of Hip Hop to name a few).

He is currently working on new material and art projects for late 2018/2019 releases.
