Asta Hiroki is an electronic music producer and visual artist based in Brighton, UK.
‘Balance’ is his debut EP out 24th June 2016 on Jalapeno Records. Taking cues from electronica, post-Dilla hip hop, lo-fi, glitch, jazz and soul music – this collection is textural and deep with an ethereal quality that is usually found in film soundtracks. Think Teebs, Flying Lotus, Bibio and James Blake and you’re in the right area…
His musical style consists of intricately programmed, syncopated drum rhythms, alternating time signatures and liberal use of orchestral instruments alongside analogue synths. And not to forget sound design that frequently incorporates field recordings and repurposed everyday sounds.
The result on ‘Balance’ is a brand of intelligent and modern, soulful electronica and this debut is complemented beautifully by the unmistakable velvety vocals of Australian songstress and Belleruche (Tru Thoughts) front lady – Kathrin deBoer who contributes her unique talents to both the first and last tracks of the record.
The unique sound on Balance has seen it win support from the likes of KCRW, Couleur 3, BBC Radio 3, WRUV, Exclaim!, Hiive, XYZ Magazine and Juno Download.
As an artist he utilises glitch aesthetics in both his sonic and visual work as well as exploring the themes of organic naturalism and digital data possibilities. Frequently he codes his own plugins to produce video effects and content to accompany his music and create AV shows.
